Rev!Kevedd Drabble: “Let’s break the 4th wall”
It just wasn’t fair. No one should ever have such control over the emotions of others.
Slamming shut his laptop, not caring if it had in fact properly turned off, Kevin Anderson let out an indignant sniffle, trying hard (and failing) to contain the tears already swimming at the edge of his eyes. Damn it, damn it all!
A few moments ago, it had seemed like a rather good idea to wind down from the stresses of daily life, his homework, the blueprints in his notebook, and just surf the net. He had hoped there would be new material uploaded since he last checked the night before, and was pleasantly surprised when he found there were a few “new posts” in his tracking tags. However, two one-shots and a chapter later, he had been reduced to this current… state. Upset would be too lenient a word to describe what he was feeling then; he was utterly distraught.
Truthfully speaking, he never was one to read fiction. Too much fantastic, far-fetched imagination involved (not that he wasn’t imaginative), but the discovery of an entire circle surrounding not only his life but his partner’s as well was… well, fascinating. It was curious, fun even, to be able to read what other people thought of them, of their take on them. And, on rare occasions, he’d find a piece or two heart-warming enough that he’d secretly tuck away, hidden within a sea of folders (lest He finds out). –but today’s posts… dammit, did all these writers unanimously decide to rip his heart out and roast it upon a spit?? It was simply unfair!
Stubbornly, he refused to give in to the avalanche of emotions within him, but oh, that last story, that ending! He stifled another sob. Instead, the robotics enthusiast glared his attention at the person seated a little distance away from him: the source of his misery –not that it really was his fault, but Kevin didn’t care at that moment-
The owner of the name raised one eyebrow at the address, glancing up from the book he was reading to meet the glare “Yes, Pumpkin? What do you wan-”
And then the swim captain was lifted, half dragged, half-heaved to his feet by the collar of his shirt and jacket. If not for the fact that it was his Kevin that held the grip, Eddward would have lashed out with a fist to the face at the offending act.
“Don’t you EVER keep secrets from me!” Kevin cut in abruptly, pouring his heartache from before into frustration and anger instead. To make his point, he thrust his head forward to glare into slightly widened eyes, the bill of his QuizBowl cap digging into his partner’s beanie.
“Don’t you ever think of keeping it a secret if you ever get…” there was an infinitesimal of a pause “terminally ill- …or any type of sickness at all!”
“-and if your car needs fixing, particularly the brakes, tell me immediately!”
“-and, and” He could almost feel the burn of tears in his eyes again. And was that his own voice cracking? “If there’s ever a zombie apocalypse, don’t you DARE ‘turn’ and leave me behind!”
A long pause, then- “Sure, whatever Pumpkin.”
Quizzical eyes flickered momentarily to the laptop behind Kevin, and almost immediately realization dawned.
“…you were on tumblr reading fanfiction of us again, weren’t you?”
Eddward would later describe the expression and colour rising on Kevin’s face as nothing short of priceless.
Notes: Inspired by the recent influx of heart-wrenching stories/oneshots/fanarts in the Rev!Kevedd tag. Seriously people, why do you torture us so ;A; [no seriously, you’re amazing, don’t stop writing]
In case it’s not obvious, the stories/oneshots Kevin was referring to are: [link] [link] and [link] (okay, the last one isn’t recent, but it’s still heart-wrenching!) This drabble is a shout out to these amazing writers. Go read their works if you haven’t already!
